Reflection: The Final Days of Judah and the Call to Bless the Lord
2 Kings 23
Josiah’s reforms are comprehensive as he seeks to rid Judah of all idolatry and restore proper worship of God. The word “covenant” stands out here, as Josiah renews the covenant with God on behalf of the nation, demonstrating the power of repentance and commitment to God’s ways. His reforms are an attempt to avert the judgment prophesied over Judah, but despite his faithfulness, the people’s hearts remain unchanged.
2 Kings 24
After Josiah’s death, Judah returns to its sinful ways under the reign of Jehoiakim. The word “exile” becomes prominent, as Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon besieges Jerusalem and takes some of the people captive. The chapter sets the stage for the eventual destruction of Jerusalem and the final fall of Judah. The consequences of unrepentant sin are clear, and the chapter illustrates the devastation that follows when a nation turns away from God.
2 Kings 25
The final chapter in 2 Kings describes the destruction of Jerusalem. The temple is burned, and the city is left in ruins. Zedekiah, the last king of Judah, is captured, and the people are taken into exile. The word “destruction” resonates here, symbolizing the tragic end of Judah’s rebellious journey. This chapter serves as a sobering reminder that God’s patience has limits, and that disobedience will eventually lead to consequences.
Psalm 134
This Psalm calls on the people of God to bless the Lord, emphasizing the importance of worshiping Him day and night. The Hebrew word “bless” here reflects the act of praising God with all that we are. This Psalm reminds us that worship is not just a Sunday activity but should be a continuous part of our lives. It calls for consistent, heartfelt praise to the God who deserves all glory and honor.

Help us to continually bless You with our lives, not just in moments of ease but through every circumstance. May we never grow complacent but remain faithful to You, trusting in Your mercy and grace. In Jesus’ name, Amen."
